The sea: Sabaudia dunes, Circeo and beaches with kids
Lazio has a coast most foreign visitors never hear about: kilometres of dunes, a headland dropping into the sea and fine sandy beaches where Romans have always gone. All under an hour from the villa.

Sabaudia and the Circeo
A long shoreline of dunes with Lake Paola behind and Mount Circeo closing the horizon: the most scenic beach in Lazio. San Felice Circeo, on the headland, is the village to stop in for dinner. Between June and September arrive before ten for parking.
Anzio and Nettuno
The closest ones. Small harbours, fish restaurants on the pier and town beaches that are easy with children. Nettuno has a small, well-kept medieval quarter; Anzio has Nero's grottoes and the fish market.
Terracina and Sperlonga
A little further, about an hour, but worth the day: Sperlonga is the white village perched over the sea, with Tiberius's villa at its feet. Terracina has the temple of Jupiter Anxur above the town and a very long beach.
