The Garden of Ninfa

10 minutes from the villa

The Garden of Ninfa

An English-style garden grown over the ruins of a medieval town, crossed by a river of crystal-clear water. The New York Times called it the most romantic garden in the world, and at ten minutes from our house it is the first thing we recommend.

What you'll see

Roses climbing ruined towers, the Ninfa river so clear you can see the trout, stone bridges, bamboo, Japanese cherries and the walls of what was, in the Middle Ages, a town with seven churches. Every season is different: April and May for the blooms, autumn for the colours.

How the visit works

The garden opens only on certain days of the year, usually weekends from March to November, and can only be visited with a guide in small groups. Tickets are sold online and spring weekends sell out weeks ahead: book as soon as you fix your dates.

Combine it with

Five minutes away is Sermoneta, the medieval hill town with the Caetani Castle, perfect for lunch after the visit. Or the Cistercian abbey of Valvisciolo, silent and almost always empty.
